    There is a man by the name of "traviszumwalt" aka the wood wizard... he uses the aluminum meshe stuff... i believe its called "c-teck" pretty sure you can google it and see pictures.

    Yes, that looks exactly like it albeit much smaller, with epoxy filled in.

    www.plascore.com has aluminum, stainless, aramid, and poly honeycomb core material which could be filled with epoxy to make all sorts of panels for scales. It is very common in marine and aerospace panels.

    Somebody, not sure which forum it was on used a couple of different colors of bowling ball material that came out kind of nice.
