@Riz! - did you manage to resolve your head looseness on the hickory model?

I've got the synthetic Model 1, but I think I'd like the aliveness of a hickory handle.... but not if it can't stand up to some light chopping!

I did re-handle it. The inside of the eye is actually stepped inside. Its milled so that there is a little ridge inside the eye by the top of the head. I believe it is there so that the nylon handle locks into the head before the retention screw is put in place. I have to admit, they could do a much better job hanging the heads on the hickory handles. It was pretty loosely fit before it was wedged. I got mine fit so that the kerf (i think its called that) was slightly compressed before I wedged it. Its way more secure now. I do prefer the feel of the hickory handle, but for pure durability the nylon is the way to go.

Just a little follow up... I used the Hickory Model 1 that I rehung for about 2 hours of continuous chopping. I had a huge brush pile that I had to cut down to fit into the fire pit. After all of those impacts the head was still rock solid. This thing is a chopping beast. I highly recommend it.

Thanks! Yeah I think I'm going to sell off my synthetic and go hickory when I do my next trip to the USA!.... which could be very far away at this point.

How rigid is the nylon handle? If I get one I want a good, stiff handle for chopping purposes?

I haven't used my synthetic one, but I can tell you the handle is thicker and feels more stout than the original V-TAC.
    It's definitely stiff!

me tooo! I was hoping for a true tomahawk. A slip fit eye with an head profile similar to RMJ’s loggerhead.

it would also be cool if. Was a one piece hawk like a kestrel but with the model 1 head profile.

who knows. I guess we have to wait for pics

Thanks for the info about Model 2, guys.
Who is responsible for drop forging? Is that part of production, by any chance, outsourced to Council Tool Co?

They released a teaser photo. Model 2 has a hammer poll and appears to have a curved bit instead of the straight bit like the model 1.

The instagram post shows a hawk with the same synthetic handle as the Model 1, but with a hammer poll. It looks heavier than a Model 1.
Can't see the edge since it's beneath a curved leather cover.
