Does anyone actually use a balisong knife?

I was never attracted to them, and reason more for that is the fact they're illegal to carry in my country.
I think they could be useful as EDC though, but...

These knives are considered as a weapon here:
    Switchblades
    Assisted opening knives
    Double edged blades and daggers
Knives with knuckles or finger holes on the handle (even Karambit)
    Balisongs

Single edged folding knives without a spring are considered as a tool.
Single edged fixed blades are also considered as a tool.
Also, law is such that it must be concealed, unless you're doing something with it.
And your blade can be as long as you can justify the need for such a large blade, and also successfully conceal it. And hardly anyone can justify carrying around a blade larger than 4 inches.

Carrying a knife primarily as a self defense weapon is not legal, but it's legal to use a knife in self defense situation, since it's a tool you were pressed into using as a weapon. Same goes for umbrella, screwdriver and other such tools. It's literally dependant on what you're carrying and what you'll say as your reasoning.

Laws here are weird, but if you own a small fixed blade or regular non outrageous looking folder police won't bat an eye. Even if they do ask, your reply being "Opening boxes at work" or "Wire stripping, I'm an electrician" and so on, will just make them say "Oh, OK" and return you the knife.
However, balisong or spring assisted knife, despite being less dangerous than a similarly sized fixed blade will create you a load of trouble.

I received mine as an 87, the blade was warped which prompted a call to BM. I inquired about loosening the screws to try and tweak the alignment a little hoping to sort it out but the BM rep told me that they were loc-tite’d at the factory and not to risk destroying the screws.
They were more than willing to send out a shipping label to get it in for a replacement blade
They released the 85 before I mailed it in so I called again and they agreed to put an 85 blade in for me when it arrived.
They may not want you tinkering in the knife but they’re customer service is absolutely top notch and the turn around time wasn’t long at all.

I think they're great knives and I'd carry one if knife laws weren't stupid. They often have a bit of length to them, which I like and if they have good blade shape rather than the stilletto type, I think they're pretty useful. The one I'd find myself carrying the most if I could would be the Benchmade 51.

I'm not a fan, just don't like them or anything about them. It doesn't help that you have these absolute "LOOK AT ME!" morons at BLADE show every year (many of whom seem to be teenagers or even children), who'll walk through crowds twirling live bladed examples and doing tricks . I recall last year when some idiot was trying to do that trick where they spin the thing and toss it up in the air so they can catch it behind their back or whatever and it got away from the kid and hit some dude standing several feet away in the leg.

No. I suppose I could have worded the phrase better.

If theres no victimtheres no crime and I believe you have no reason to speak to the police if you dont want to.

I used to carry one of any number of balisongs I used to own back when I owned them. 42MC, 43MC, 42-400, 32 Morpho, Bradley Mayhem, perhaps others I can't remember. Sold them all - really wish I still had the 43MC and Mayhem, but I had bills that needed paying. I still own a 51 Morpho, but I haven't carried it for a few years since I lost a screw - I should really get around to replacing it. The only other balisong I kept was my 31, and it's one I'll keep for ever. I carry it and use it with relative regularity - as much as most of my other EDC knives.
