In terms of edge retention and toughness, is Cold Steel’s Aus8a steel good? I’ve been impressed by their Aus10a and S35VN so far.

It’s just as good as any other aus8, maybe better. I do notice its harder to sharpen compared to me rat 1. Puts up a little more of a fight and Im using diamond stones.

I've always been pleased with it. It seems tough and easy enough to sharpen.

I have it on my bird and trout. Easy to sharpen, take a razor's edge. Works fine for cutting up cardboard, doesn't dull too quickly.

Very easy to sharpen and strop to a mirror.

Kinda soft, so it rolls before chipping. Very corrosion resistant.

Based on your responses, it seems to be a good deal for what you pay for. Thanks guys.

I've used it in Recon 1 faders for 18 or so years? I've had an ultra lock and two triad locks in it.

    Not bad. Tough steel.

:) The newer improved steels are just that , but expect to pay more .

Cold Steel does a great HT , so their AUS8A was respectable , IMO .

I even used a few of my old Voyagers as throwing knives (NOT recommended ) with no damage .:thumbsup:

    That’s impressive.

@Smiling perhaps Cold Steel Voyager knives are girlfriend-proof?
