For me, time does not heal these wounds. I'll sing a song sitting by the fire for you. It's the smoke in my eyes.
You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her only that she is gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back. Or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. Poem by David Harkins quotes (British Poet and Painter b.1958)
Losing a beloved animal can be very difficult, one of the deepest pains I have felt. Just reflect on the fact that you treated her with kindness and love. That along with a warm place to sleep and a full belly are all they really want. She was obviously very happy, you did good.
My condolences for your loss. May you have many fond memories to look back on, and may they never fade, but always grow yet more golden.
As my dear friend Kismet said, "words don't work." And although there are few that can bring real comfort at a time such as this I always found these too be meaningful for me... Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. Mary Elizabeth Frye ~~Smoke~~ for your little girl Cassady Uwinv. My heart is on the ground for you and what you are feeling...
Karda, The loss of anyone who is loved is a great tragedy, and no amount of condolences can backfill the void left by their departure. My Dog passed on 7 months ago and I still sometimes expect to open my door to see his wet nose sniffing and tail happily wagging just because I came home. We can only wish in life that we become half as good the people that our dogs thought we were. Loyalty and friendship seems to know no bounds with a good pet. Only time heals, Until then just hold on to the many great memories that Im sure you have and know that she is no longer suffering and in a better place probably thinking about you just as much.
I feel your pain, I lost my Lab (Jersey) a few years back and still miss her. My German Sheppard (Cheyenne) is now in failing health. Very tough to go through. Smoke and prayers for you and yours.
Smoke and loving prayers up, Karda. What a fine lady she is in that picture. I can see the love in her eyes. Mark
