Hamon D2

D2 is air hardening steel which will fully harden even in the clay coated area so no hamon for this steel.

 

You can fake a hamon on D-2, but you can't make one

 

You could get a temper line possibly using a torch. If your after that kind of look then pick a diffrent steel.

 

I'm not sure a temper line will show on D-2. It has so much chromium it may not take on much difference in appearance in the more tempered areas. You certainly can't torch harden D-2.
