Our own lessismore, aka bladesmith John Conner, recently completed these two classic S Guard pattern Bowie knives, and I think you'll agree, they came out great!

More of John's work, along with his friend Tim Knotts, can be found here on BFC under the hosted knifemaker's forums. Check it out.

I've been following John's work closely for a while now and have two of his knives (and cowbells).
It's amazing the workmanship that comes out of his shop. Tight tolerences, unique touches and flawless, to my eyes, grinds. His sheaths are works of art, too.
The thought that these are his first bowies just blows me away. That is not the craftsmanship of a rookie.

Very nice, I think I like the leather handle a little better.

I like the way you guys think. The leather is nicely stacked, just the way I like it and the contrasting blackwood and bronze just sets it off.
It should be in my hands tomorrow.
John calls it the ugly duckling but I think it's beautiful.

My pics aren't nearly as good as John's. It's unbelievably hard for me to photograph the details but WOW! The grain on the blackwood is gorgeous and the fit and finish are superb.
This is also as sharp as any razor I have ever handled.

Fantastic work. I like the looks of both of these. Slightly partial to the ivory handle but very hard to pick a favorite.

I am lucky to get to ogle it whenever I want to. I still can't believe that he hadn't had a lot of practice before knocking these out.
