I searched but I couldn't find any threads about Todd Davison's knives, other than a closed one and a bunch in the sales forum. So I figured I would start one.

I just made my first foray into the world of custom knives with T.A. Davison #1865. The whole purchasing process was a pleasure. Todd was quick to answer my e-mails and designed the knife exactly as I requested. He told me it would take 90 days to build; I got an e-mail that it was ready after 82 days. I looked over the photos, asked a couple of questions, and 1865 was en route the next day.

It's mahogany jigged bone and CPM154, with stainless liners, pins and bolster. The craftsmanship is superb. No gaps, no wobble, and a perfectly centered blade. The spring is flush in all three positions. The coined liners are precisely symmetrical and their interiors are polished and engraved with the knife's number. The inside of the spring is polished and worked with a kind of scalloped pattern. The pins are nicely domed and the double bomb shield is executed well. The bone is a gorgeous color and the jigging is fantastic. The pull is firm, but not too strong (it's pinchable, actually, but maybe not with cold or wet hands), and the walk and talk is damned near musical. To say I am pleased would be an understatement!

    TL;DR: T.A. Davison makes a kick-ass knife!

    Todd's nice photo:

And a couple of crappy ones from me. Check out the color of the bone in a little sunlight:

The nearly seamless join between the backspring and the blade (actually a little exaggerated due to the bright light; I can barely feel it with a fingernail):

The perfectly flush backspring at the half-stop:

My goodness! That is a beauty!

The bone and jigging are very attractive and that back spring photo speaks volumes. Excellent choice for your first custom. Thank you for sharing this.

Excellent jigging on that, good to see some of his knives again. He used to post pix of his newly made stuff and this was quite a big thread as far as I remember.

I was wondering why his threads were closed. Recently was considering another one of Todd's knives and have had two in the past that I eventually let go.

Very nice. Todd's Jigged Mahogany & Red are amazing. Nice clip blade. He basically does every design freehand - no set patterns as I understand. Amazing skills.
I too have an order in to him. My first custom. Can't wait.

Careful. Todd’s knives suckered me into the custom world. I have 4 myself. I almost bought one very similar to that also. It’s a beauty.

Beautiful knife! There is a Todd Davison thread...one that he participates in :)
    You can find it here.

Edit: I have no idea why...but that thread is now closed? What happened?

Sorry for the bad pic. But here is my 4. The bottom one was my first custom ever. The bottom 3 are all commissions he did for me. The second was my 3rd from him. It was made to carry at my wedding. I still carry it on dates and trips with my wife. The next is mammoth ivory. The top one is a double blade #1200. I got it when the 00’s where hard to come by as a gentlemen was buying them all from him. I picked it up off the exchange here.

I think I’ll carry my orange #1054 tonight.

Same thing happened last fall, it was closed, I talked to our moderators and they reopened it. Only thing I can think of is that the OP has closed it again. I don't see how this thread is in violation of anything to be closed for.o_O

That's the closed thread I was referring to in my initial post. Kind of funny, really. I had been looking at the KnifeMaker's for sale forum and seen a number of Mr. Davison's knives that appealed to me. At the beginning of June last year, I subscribed to his e-mail feed, but, not wanting to rush into anything, I started to do a lot of research into various makers. Part of that entailed reading that thread from start to finish. By early October, I had decided to approach Todd. My first mail to him was October 13th and by October 15th I had formally placed my order. At the time, I actually thought, "It will be nice to add my Davison to that thread!" A couple of weeks later, I went to re-visit it and it had been locked. Made me think that maybe Todd had closed up shop. To my relief, I got one of his e-mails a few days later.

Thanks for the photos @Jack Black and @SVTFreak! I hope more people will post theirs, particularly since that other thread is locked. @pmek5, may you be as happy with your Davison as I am with mine! Please post some pictures when you receive it.

[EDIT TO ADD: @knowtracks and @waverave It would be great if that thread was re-opened. Strange that it was closed in the first place. I didn't see your comments before I posted this, as I was called to dinner in the middle of typing my reply.]

Here is one of Todd's from last year. I have a jigged one, but seem to have no pictures of it. Will get that loaded in here at some point.
