Yeah, I only buy through US dealers/ US factory stores anymore. Less headaches IMHO in the rare instances there's a major issue.

As for the cost, I think the larger amount of brass and the bead-blasting of the brass and matte finish on the blade are the cost driver.

Here's my pile of Boker Barlows (for now?), all new within the last 4 months or so...

I too, flushed and re-oiled my boker. Action is great now.

Hey Jer @scrteened porch I think the riddle of the keeping of the walnut is finally solved.
A couple of options are clear ..
Not sure what tools you have available ..a thicknesser and band saw would be handy ...but it could all be done with hand tools...rasp that wood down flat and level...cut out your new scales...keeping everything slightly oversized...prise off those old scales....file the pins down flush...pox the new ones on....finish by sanding and polishing with some hard sheen cabinet wax...that would work for me..
    OR send to Glennbad..

That all sounds good, but the bit of walnut is thin and twisty. I'll see if I can get a couple of flat pieces big enough out of it. Might be a question of cutting it at a slant.

Today's haul (minus a brace with a funny chuck):
Ontario Knife Co bread knife and Coleman Western double lockback. I think I've found my farm knife (the Western).

I had a big weekend, these two arrived yesterday. Both are top notch, and I couldn’t be happier.
