    Hello All,
New to collecting so far I have.
    Spydoco Para3, Manix2
    Ontario rat1
Civivi baklash, praxis and McKenna in Damascus.

I wanted a nice frame lock and like the ZT 0562cf Hinderer but have heard about lock failures. Is this a past issue that has been resolved or should I move on? Also any alternatives I should be looking at and one last thing. Blade HQ has Kizer on sale but when I'm looking into them some have claimed the price on Blade HQ is no better then they have been getting on Amazon. Not that that matters but what's the real value is it the 200 MSRP of the 100 sale price?

There is no issue with ZT 0562cf. In fact it is one of the best ZT offerings. Buy with confidence. As for alternatives, Hinderer XM-18 3.5" slicer or skinny slicer are similar to ZT 0562CF but more expensive.

My 0562cf is one of if not my favorite ZT I own. You can't go wrong IMO.

I'd recommend buying off the secondary market as I see some great deals quite often.

0562cf is a solid, great knife. No lock issues that I'm aware of. The lock issues were overblown IMO (yes, I have had a ZT that had it)... and most of the time easily fixed with lockbar tension adjustment... I tested my 0609 and it didn't have any issues... but changing lockbar tension can make it have issues.

0562 is a beefy knife, but a very good one. Solid lockup! I'm sure you will love it... will be the stoutest in your collection I think.

Lock issues with ZTs are more dependent on the fit of the lock against the tang, rather than on the specific model. This is at least based on what I can surmise from owning some with lock issues and seeing many more. My personal 0562 had poor lock geometry but it wasn't to the level of being unsafe. Most likely, you will not have a lock issue with an 0562, and if you do you can either return it or send it in for warranty repair.

That being said, I find ZT to be less than ideal with regards to cutting performance (heat treat, blade and edge geometry). If that's okay with you, then an 0562 will be great. For better performance, I think Benchmade and Spyderco might edge them out.

I would tend to agree about cutter performance with most ZT's. The 0562 is a solid design though and I find it aesthetically pleasing for sure. Benchmade doesn't really make framelocks and they aren't Spyderco's thing either. The SpydieChef is a good design though. If you're looking at a new ZT for a bit more you can find a used CRK or Hinderer as well.

Being new I wouldn't know where to go or trust on the secondary market. I know enough to know I dont know enough any suggestions?

The only place I buy secondary market knives is here on BF. You do have some recourse when you buy from here if what you’ve buying isn’t represented correctly. Most sellers here use PayPal. Using PayPal goods/services provides another level of protection for the buyer to get what is represented. Never trust anyone that asks for PayPal family/friends payment. You have no recourse with f/f.

ZT knives are just too bulky and ugly handle design, IMO, and blade stock too thick, love my SPydercos

If you like the 0562cf you might also like the 0562TI, unless you’re a carbon fiber guy... the titanium version is actually lighter than the cf version

Another vote for 562Ti for the lighter weight and durability. I used to deal with carbon fiber material in my past life, and once chipped, it gives the worst splinter one could imagine. For that reason I never get any scale in carbon fiber.

I’ve always had a hangup with the 562CF using stainless steel below the carbon fiber scale. It’s not a functional issue, but it bugs me to the point I never bought one.

I’d have bought a 0562Ti without hesitating if they were making them a few years ago. These days my sights are on other knives, however.

The ZT’s I own have all been great knives. I encourage you to go for it!

I’d much rather spend my money on a used Hinderer, here of the forum. I’ve seen some great prices lately. It’s been tough to pass on them honestly. I much prefer hinderer’s lock-up to ZT’s.

If the question is ZT’s Hinderer vs Hinderer’s Hinderer I think it depends
The 0562 is very close to a skinny xm-18 for far less money
I had a xm-18 slicer gen 6 beside my 0562 and while the Hinderer is just in an other league in term of quality and finish I have to say that for the price IMO the 0562 was better for me
But after handling the real Hinderer I took a non flipper xm-18 gen 4 that fits my hands better

If you are willing to wait, ZT have holiday sales. I got a 0562TI and 0393GLCF for $180 each during holiday, that’s a lot of $ saved. In the meantime, you can buy stuff that never go on sales, like Spyderco, if you like them.

Yeah I was going to say that. The 055 was suppose to be a hit but the design did not catch on. I think I will pick one up and realize it's not worth anything after that. It is discounted bigtime and is also discontinued.

That's a point I didn't consider and a good one. I work in the plywood/lumber industry and that could be an issue hstr to spend the money and have a chip happen.
